01How it works

Three steps. No electrician.*

If you can hang a planter and plug in a lamp, you can install Wattzup.

STEP 1

Hang it

Strap the flexible panels to your railing, fence or stand. They weigh a few pounds each and bend to fit.

~10 min
STEP 2

Plug it in

Connect the microinverter and plug the cord into an outdoor GFCI outlet. Your home uses the solar power first.

~2 min
STEP 3

Watch it work

Open the app to see live output, today's savings and your running total. Your meter does the rest.

every day

*You need an outdoor GFCI outlet within reach. Don't have one? Our Orange County and LA install crew can add one.

02A day with Wattzup

Your meter slows down while the sun is up.

Wattzup output. Solar power flows into your home's circuits as soon as the sun hits the panels.
Power you didn't buy. Everything your fridge, Wi-Fi and laptop use during the day comes off your bill.
Your home's usage. Mornings and evenings still come from the grid, as usual.

“Half of California can't put solar on a roof. We think they should still get to run on sunshine.”

Wattzup is a Southern California company started by people who've spent years building EV charging and clean energy here. We're based in Orange County and we install across OC and LA.

10FAQ

Good questions.

Still curious? Join the waitlist and reply to any email. A real person will answer.

Is plug-in solar really legal in California?

Yes, starting January 1, 2027. California's SB 868 allows certified plug-in solar systems up to 1,200 W to connect through an outlet, with no utility approval or fees. Every Wattzup kit is sized to stay under that limit.

I rent. Can I still use it?

That's who we built it for. Wattzup hangs with straps, so there's no drilling and nothing permanent. Check your lease or HOA rules for anything hung on a balcony, and take it with you when you move.

What kind of outlet do I need?

A standard 120 V outdoor GFCI outlet within reach of your panels. No power strips or extension cords. Don't have one? Our Orange County and LA install crew can add one.

Do I need to tell my utility?

Your utility may ask you to fill out a short online form with your address and kit details. It's a notice, not an approval, and there's no fee. The Wattzup guide walks you through it.

Will it keep my lights on in a blackout?

No. For safety, the microinverter shuts off within seconds when the grid goes down, so it never sends power onto lines crews are working on.

How much will I really save?

It depends on your sun, shade and electric rate. In Southern California, a south- or west-facing kit makes about 1.3 kWh per watt each year. Try the calculator above with your own numbers.

What if my spot gets some shade?

Panels still work in partial shade, just with less output. East-facing spots produce a bit less than south or west. The calculator shows the difference.

When do kits ship?

Founding members get the first kits. Every kit will be UL 3700 certified before it ships, and we'll email waitlist members as soon as dates are set.
